A Trend To Actually Wear: Patterned Shirts

June 29th, 2016

The patterned shirt makes a stylish summer comeback

When it comes to trends, there are some I can’t stand, some that are cool but not for me and some that I’m surprised to find out are currently trending because it’s something I’ve always liked and worn.

Such is the case with the patterned shirt.

We singled out the patterned shirt at Pitti as one of the big trends to watch – and wear – as we head into summer. Not just for island vacations and lounging by the pool, a patterned shirt can be easily incorporated into your sharp casual repertoire as well.

Here’s one way to style it with a blazer.

One of the keys to wearing a patterned shirt with a blazer is to keep the rest of your outfit simple and muted. No matter the intensity of the design on the shirt – from wildly colorful to simple and muted – it’s going to be the star of the show.

As with any “statement” item, you don’t want to overcomplicate things and risk too much pattern or drawing undo attention to yourself. Unless that’s what you’re going for.

I love a patterned shirt in the summer as a way to make a blazer and trousers outfit a little less formal and a little more fun. It’s a great look for sunset cocktails and dinner down by the water or for a Friday at the office.

To keep things interesting and add more depth to the look, try to work in some texture via your blazer. Looks great and keeps you cool. It’s a win-win.
