Regular readers of the blog may accuse me of sounding like a broken record, but my mantra when it comes to suits is: when you buy a suit, you’re not just buying a suit. And investing in a three-piece suit, greatly increases your suit’s versatility. Some separates and combinations are easy to style, like the blazer alone, while others are underutilized. One of the trickier combos is the blazer and waistcoat together. Here’s one way to do it.
By nature, a blazer and waistcoat in the same fabric worn together will appear more formal. This is why it can be challenging to find ways to dress down a three-piece suit. While a blazer and chinos is typical, adding a matching waistcoat makes for a comfortable and stylish look that’s perfect for the office or a lunchtime business meeting.
Don’t forget about green as a great accent color and remember that there are a wide variety of shades of green to choose for every season. A deep hunter green or olive is perfect for fall, while brighter hues work best for spring or summer. For the spring transition, I really like emerald, and especially this knit tie.
