Serendipity is defined as the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. It’s something you can never plan or count on, but when a situation arises it’s imperative to have an open mind and be flexible so that a potentially wonderful moment or experience doesn’t pass you by. I’ve had a fair amount of serendipity in my life recently. As I mentioned on Monday, simply being in Venice was fairly serendipitous. Little did I know, there was more to come.
Though my time in Venice was jammed packed with commitments, I did find a few hours to walk around and casually soak up the sights. Earlier in the day while fending off jet lag, Rob and I strolled a bit and scouted a few locations for taking photos later that afternoon. I decided that I wanted to shoot this casual look with my Breton stripe sweater near the Rialto Bridge down by the Grand Canal. Stripes and gondolas seemed like an appropriate combination. However, as we were grabbing a quick bite and sitting outside a small pizzeria in one of Venice’s many narrow and beautiful alleys, some amazing light began pouring in. Needless to say, I scrapped the original plan, we finished our lunch, and then took these photos. Total serendipity.
This Breton stripe sweater from Saint James is one of my favorites and I look forward to breaking it out once it gets cool enough since it is extremely warm. If you’re thinking about picking one up, bear in mind that like a leather jacket, it should fit snugly around your body and arms. If you’re not comfortable in form-fitting garments, this might not be the sweater for you. While at first, it may feel a little constricting, over time the sweater will begin to take the shape of your body and be very comfortable.
