Showcasing two bold double-breasted jackets
For those with a sharp sartorial eye, awards shows tend to leave a lot to be desired. Between questionable style choices and impossibly ill-fitting suits and tuxedos, there’s typically plenty of red carpet cringe to go around. Yet, there was a lot of great style on display last night at the 2022 Grammy Awards, including host Trevor Noah, who clearly got the memo and nailed the brief with some exceptional formalwear. Let’s take a look.
Red Carpet Look
When it comes to formalwear, there’s nothing quite like a well-placed and well-timed statement piece. And there’s certainly no better place or time to bust out a statement dinner jacket than the Grammys red carpet. Walking the red carpet at the 2022 Grammy Awards, Trevor Noah wore a textured pink six-button dinner jacket with a wide peaked self-facing lapel paired with a fly-front tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black tuxedo trousers, and black patent leather shoes. GQ reports that Mr. Noah’s dinner jacket is by Gucci.
While you’d expect a formalwear jacket to be styled with jetted pockets, Mr. Noah’s features flap pockets instead. An interesting choice that somehow works in this instance (and also when he donned it later on during the second half of the awards ceremony).
Monologue Look
While everyone else was talking about Trevor Noah’s sly Will Smith slap joke during his monologue, we were talking about his stunning dinner jacket. The jacket is black with a subtle repeating horsebit pattern — which would lead us to believe that this jacket is also by Gucci — and has six-buttons, a peaked satin lapel, four buttons on the cuff, and flap pockets once again.
