White Denim Dressed Up, Part 2

White Denim Dressed Up, Part 2

White denim as workwear? Why not? Depending on where you work it might not be appropriate for most days of the week, but if your workplace has a casual Friday policy, white denim is an unexpected and stylish alternative to chinos or dark denim.

White denim can certainly be striking. It’s crisp, sophisticated, and definitely makes a statement. But another way to see it is as a blank canvas. Because white is so neutral, it pairs well with literally any color or pattern. While white denim itself is bold in its starkness, it also provides an opportunity to showcase other bold items—like a wide striped shirt, for example—and have them really stand out.

I’m sometimes asked whether it is better to have a pinch or slide clasp tie bar. The answer is that it depends. The deciding factor for me is always the thickness of the tie. Silk knit ties are perfect for summer but also very thin and I find that a pinch clasp doesn’t stay put quite as well as a slide clasp. For more on tie bars, check out my guide on how to wear one properly.

Dressed up enough for work but definitely not overdressed for cocktails after work. If you plan on transitioning right from the office to drinks with friends or a date, a dressed up look with white denim will definitely have you more than covered in either situation.
