Though perhaps not as popular as a crew neck or v-neck, a cardigan is a versatile sweater that should have a place in every man’s wardrobe. Whether worn casually or dressed up on its own, there are many ways to think about it and to style it. And for great fall and winter style, a cardigan is the perfect layering piece. Here’s one way to do it.
Cardigans come in many shapes, sizes, and fabrics. There’s the shawl collar, cable, chunky knit, belted, patterned, and so on. However, if you’re thinking about buying your first cardigan, selecting one in a lightweight wool is possibly the most versatile choice. The lighter fabric will also allow you to layer it under a blazer or sport coat. Also, remember that one in a staple color such as a dark charcoal grey or navy will offer the most styling options—even pairing well with bolder patterns.
