“To arrive” means to reach a place at the end of a journey or a stage in a journey. When traveling, you arrive at your destination. We also use the term to designate a feeling of contentment after achieving some measure of success. For example, I spent 10 years in college and graduate school studying like a madman and landed my dream job after I graduated – it feels like I’ve arrived.
When you find yourself in a place like that, it’s important to sit back, take a second to reflect on what it took to get there and feel good about yourself. Too often, especially these days, I think we move right past, downplay or even overlook important milestones for one reason or another. We don’t want to seem self-satisfied or, worse, complacent. But anybody who gets to a point where they can feel as they’ve arrived truly deserves that small moment of pleasure.

It’s important to note, that inherent in the concept of arrival is a journey. And an arrival doesn’t necessarily mean the end of a journey. Life is a journey and so is personal style. I feel strongly that if personal style is something you explore, invest in and place a premium on superior craftsmanship and design, that all the pieces matter. If you’re building a quality wardrobe, your accessories should match.
One of the ultimate gentleman’s travel accessories is a leather duffel bag. It’s not only practical, but exudes a timeless and classic style. In a medium size, like my Ghurka Cavalier II, it’s perfect for the guy on the go – large enough for a weekend getaway to the city yet small enough to qualify as a carry-on for an international adventure.
A quality leather duffel is a true investment piece and should be treated as an heirloom that can be handed down. Look for one with quality leather and finishing, a durable lining, brass features and from a brand that has been around “knows the business.”
A Ghurka leather duffel has always been on my personal style bucket list. Its quality is unmatched and one of the coolest things, for my money, is that each piece receives its own registration number, making each bag truly unique.
