An all brown look with a brown cotton suit is not too much of a good thing
I’ve been in sort of a non-color phase so far this summer. No real interest in the ubiquitous “pop of color” either. The good thing is that a lack of color can open up a number of different areas and angles to explore.
One of the easiest, which also happens to be one of my personal favorites, is to work within a particular color family.
Here’s an example of how to do it, featuring a dapper styling of my brown cotton suit.
Brown isn’t a traditional summer color. It’s not bright. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t necessarily project the season. A cotton suit, on the other hand, does. Light and breathable, a dark brown cotton suit is a great addition to your closet if you’ve already got a khaki version in your arsenal.
Just like khaki, darker brown will work with most colors you choose to pair it with. But it also serves as a great base if you plan to work within the world of browns.
Make a dark brown cotton suit the star of the summer by working in lighter shades of brown and tan in your accessories. An off-white Panama hat in place of a traditional white version and a light tan and subtly textured wool/silk tie against a crispy white shirt is all you need.
What color shoes do you wear with a brown suit? How about brown?! Again, keeping with the theme of texture and color variation within the brown spectrum, try a pair of medium brown suede penny loafers.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
