How to Wear Oxblood Shoes

The fall is a great season for mens style. The weather, the heavy fabrics, the colors… this is one of the best times of the year here in New York City. One aspect about the change of season that I really enjoy is the transition in footwear. It’s now time to pack away your summer shoes and replace them with boots and lace-up dress shoes.

One of my absolute favorite pieces of fall footwear are my oxblood oxford shoes. Somewhere between maroon and burgundy, oxblood is a versatile color that can offer some variety when both your black and brown shoes feel a little lifeless.

Although some might see oxblood as just another shade of brown, this luxurious leather color can give your fall style a jumpstart. Wear them with navy, grey, brown or beige. There’s not many colors in which you can’t wear a pair of oxblood oxfords with.

Here, I’m pairing these oxblood cap toe oxfords with a wool puppytooth suit. The shoes adds a great splash of rich color to a fairly neutral look. I always prefer to keep things simple when wearing a suit like this. Less is more. A solid shirt followed by a classic patterned tie and pocket square will keep the look balanced and refined.

When looking for oxblood shoes, it’s good to start with a well-known brand. Check out Who Makes The Best Oxblood Dress Shoes for a list of other great options. This pair is from Johnston & Murphy. They’ve been making great men’s footwear for a long time. Another thing to love? The price. This pair of oxblood shoes looks like you paid top dollar.

Not ready to pull the trigger on a pair of shoes? You don’t have to. You can find great men’s accessories in oxblood as well. You can find boots, belts, bags, and even wallets in oxblood.
