A quality leather duffle bag is a serious investment. And you will get what you pay for. The benefit of investing in a high-quality bag is that it will last longer and take on an amazing patina as it ages.
As with anything you invest in, you’ll want it to last so it’s important to know how to take care of it. Aside from caring for the leather, which we’ll cover in a subsequent post, the biggest consideration is making sure it keeps its shape when it’s not in use.
Here are a couple tips for storing a leather duffle bag.

Stuff it with something. For a leather duffle bag to keep its shape when it’s not in use and/or being stored, it needs to have something inside of it. My honest to goodness favorite thing to use is a small beach ball.
I like the beach ball method because it only requires one of them, it’s light, fills up a lot of space inside and is more or less easily adjusted by inflating more or letting air out. Plus, unlike blankets or extra clothes (see below), chances are you’re not going to be needing the beach ball that often so it’s okay for it to be packed away.
In lieu of a beach ball, you can always use extra blankets, sweaters, pillows, or anything else large, bulky and lightweight.
Use a dust bag. When you’re ready to put your leather duffle bag away, it’s best to store it in a dust bag. Many quality bags will come with their own dust bag, but if they don’t you can order one online or improvise with a blanket.
