LA Packing List

July 23rd, 2014
T

Though I didn’t have any big vacation plans this summer, last week I decided to take an impromptu trip to LA. With no real plan other than to hit the beach, say hello to my manager, meet up with a friend or two, and just wander and explore, it was a pretty low key visit. Here are some things that made it into my suitcase.

| PICTURED | Bailey of Hollywood hat (similar HERE), Diptyque Philosykos eau de toilette, J.Crew shirt, Sunglasses c/o Persol, Reiss chinos, J.Crew belt, Swim trunks c/o 2(x)ist (old, similar HERE), Common Projects sneakers, The Rake magazine, Fujifilm X100s camera | PHOTOGRAPHY | by Rob McIver Photo

1. Straw Fedora

Got to have a hat for the sun and style. Summer and vacation looks can be relatively simple, and that’s where the right headwear can make a big impact.

2. Fresh Fragrance

Like I mentioned last week, I love scents that are natural. And lately I’ve found Diptyque’s Philosykos super intriguing.

3. Linen shirt

A summer staple. Works untucked and unbuttoned at the beach and tucked in for dinner and after hours.

4. Killer Shades

I’ll probably bring my Clubmasters too, but when I think West Coast, I think Steve McQueen-style iconic cool and that’s why I’m packing the Persols.

5. Stone Chinos

A little lighter than my daily stand-bys and also a little more sophisticated. Perfect for a late lunch after hitting the beach or meeting up for drinks.

6. Braided Leather Belt

Not too dressed up, not too casual. A braided leather belt hits it right down the middle, works in a variety of settings, and is perfect for summer.

7. Swim Trunks

Need I say more? Will definitely be hitting the beach. I like a classic shape and size for my swim trunks, meaning (mostly) not too long.

8. White Kicks

If I don’t reach immediately for my loafers, I’ll generally grab these next. One of my go-to pairs of shoes this summer.

9. Reading Material

Been meaning to get through the rest of the new Rake since it arrived a couple weeks ago. I made some progress in Detroit, but once I get through the Sky Mall on the plane, I’ll be looking for something a little more engaging.

10. Camera

Because sometimes my iPhone camera isn’t enough, the Fuji always comes with me.
