Though there is much to love about fall, some of my favorite things are the smells. Dried leaves on the ground, smoke from a chimney, a freshly baked apple or pumpkin pie. They’re all such distinct seasonal scents and a welcome relief from the disgusting garbage smell that tends to hang in the humid summer air in the city.
Other than changing up your wardrobe, one of the other great parts of a change in season, is the chance to switch up your fragrance. Just like dressing in seasonal fabrics, your fragrance should match the season as well. Fragrance is an accessory and it’s always the final detail I pay attention to after getting dressed before having my morning coffee and heading out the door.
Kenneth Cole has a new scent that’s piqued my interest: Kenneth Cole Mankind. With notes of cedar, sandalwood, oakmoss and spices, it’s got an autumnal profile if you’re looking for something new fragrance-wise this season.
From a style perspective, one thing that fall ushers with its own signature scent, is leather. Yes, fall is indeed the time to break out the leathers! Here’s a smart business casual look built around leather.
As I’ve been saying recently, you’ve got to have a great coat for fall. Preferable one wool and one leather. A black leather jacket intrinsically has more of a badass vibe than, say, a brown one. That doesn’t mean it can’t be styled in a manner that’s workwear-appropriate. Call it edgy business style.
Every guy should have a leather briefcase. There are many different styles to fit a variety of professions and lifestyles. The one I’m carrying is a great mix of style and function.
If you build your look around a few leather elements, be sure that they match. Black jacket, briefcase and boots. Or brown leather jacket, briefcase and boots.
Don’t forget about black denim, your in-between dress pant. Especially for an edgier business look, they can be a solid option over chinos or trousers.
You know how we feel about chelsea boots. One of the most comfortable and versatile of all of the various boot options.
