Gray Windowpane Suit: Night Out

July 27th, 2015

Getting the most out of a suit means knowing how to dress it down. During New York Fashion Week: Men’s we partnered with Gilt for a classic 1 Piece/3 Ways editorial. The focus: a grey windowpane suit. Here’s one way to dress it way down for a night out on the town.

The easiest way to dress down a suit is to simply lose the tie and unbutton your shirt one more button than usual. It projects a cool confidence that would work perfectly at a dark cocktail bar or at a swanky club.

If you’ve followed HSS for a while, you’ll remember my stance on sneakers with a suit. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it’s warranted. If you do it, make sure the sneakers complement the suit both in style and quality. I don’t break out my Lanvins on a daily basis, but it’s nice to have them in the arsenal when the situation calls for them.

MUST READ: Can you wear sneakers with a suit?

Bonus tip: forget a pocket square when you were packing? (Like I did for this trip?) A paper napkin works just as well in a pinch. Hey, sometimes you have to improvise! Did you notice until I mentioned it? Be honest.
