Fall Essentials: The Denim Jacket

September 4th, 2013

Now that Labor Day has marked the unofficial end of summer, it’s time to break out one of my favorite fall wardrobe essentials: the denim jacket. A truly versatile garment, a denim jacket looks stylish on its own and also makes a fantastic layering piece. Here’s a simple and stylish way to wear it.

A denim jacket works great as an alternative to a blazer. It’s one of my favorite ways to wear it and adds a bit of freshness to what might be an otherwise relatively plain look. As a general rule, pair a washed denim jacket with darker pants and a dark jacket with lighter ones.

As with everything, proper fit should trump all. A denim jacket should fit snuggly around your torso, much like a waistcoat. If it’s too bulky and doesn’t hug your body, using it as a layering piece when the temperatures drop won’t be nearly as comfortable.
