Spring is right around the corner, we promise…
In partnership with Macy’s.
If you live up north, it may be hard to fathom that spring is right around the corner. And although I’m quite fond of colder weather, I’ve been traveling down south for the past two weeks, which has been a nice respite from the cold and a good rehearsal for spring style. I’ve been hot on getting back to the basics over the past two years and this spring, I fully intend to keep that trend going. Here’s a simple and classic spring look I sported recently in Florida’s Ybor City (aka Cigar City).
The foundation of any outfit begins with your shirt and pants. And there is nothing easier to put together than a classic blue button-down and navy chinos. There are very few brands that I can wear off the rack and know that I’m going to get a perfect fit and I have to say that Tommy Hilfiger is one of them.
The shirt I’m wearing is the Capote. 100-percent cotton. Super soft. Button-down collar. Rounded cuff. Classic fit. More and more, I look for clothing that fits well and that is super comfortable. The ultra-slim and fitted days are over, my friends. Time to get with the program.
Pants are always tough to find a great fit. Especially for me. And especially off the rack. Most of my trousers, including chinos, are tailored or have been altered in some way. The chinos here are the Flex Custom Fit. 97-percent cotton and 3-percent elastase.
Don’t let the “Flex” designation fool you–I hardly detect any “give” in the fabric though it has a very comfortable feel. Fit through the leg is great and the roughly 15-inch leg opening goes well with the more relaxed approach I’ve been taking recently.
With such a classic foundation, consider adding a little texture to keep things interesting. A linen blazer checks that box and ensures you’re going to stay cool when the sun’s out.
And to keep the casual in sharp casual, finish the look off with a smart pair of white sneakers.
