5 Favorite // Fall Colognes

As I’ve said many times before, cologne is the final detail to add to any outfit before stepping out of the house. Cologne should complement your personal style as well as the season. That’s why it’s important to switch up your fragrance as the season dictates.

Here are five of my favorite colognes for fall.

1. Frédéric Malle Bigarade Concentree

One of my all-time favorites for fall and one that fulfilled my search for a classic Eau de Cologne after returning from quick trip to Italy two years ago. It has a great bitter orange scent complemented by a woody base of hay and cedar. This one can easily be worn day or night. Shop here

2. Le Labo Santal 33

Inspired by the classic image of the Marlboro man – a man every guy wanted to be and every woman just plain wantedLe Labo’s Santal 33 isn’t a deep and “meaty” sandalwood scent. It’s lighter, though still complex, with slight notes of cardamom, violet, spice, musk and leather. I suggest wearing it in the daytime. Shop here

3. Byredo Mister Marvelous

If Byredo’s Oud Immortel is a great scent for transitioning from summer to fall, then Mister Marvelous is a good handoff once we’ve arrived at autumn proper. An Eau de Cologne-ish scent with mandarin leaves, black amber and white cedarwood. Shop here

4. Diptyque Volutes

Diptyque can do no wrong. You already know I’m a fan of their fig-laced Philosykos for spring and Volutes hits some great notes for fall. Tobacco, spice, amber, leather and musk. This is a great evening scent. Shop here

5. Nasomatto Black Afgano

Longtime HSS readers will remember me mentioning this one a few times. It was introduced to me by my friend Giampaolo Alliata in Milan last fall. (Coincidentally, I’ll be seeing him again next month! Wonder if he’ll have any new recommendations…) Exotic, sexy and rich. The only way to describe it. A decidedly evening scent meant to be worn in deep autumn and through the winter. Shop here
