The eyeglasses you choose can have a big impact on the image you project. They can complement certain outfits and completely change the character of another. To illustrate this, here’s one outfit, three pairs of glasses, and three different looks.
1. The Professor

Round frames always elude to a classic look with a bit of a vintage feel. Think George Reeves as Clark Kent. They’re astute, arty, and always in style. I prefer a brown pair, not just because the color works well with my complexion, but also because they’re more versatile and understated than black ones.
2. The Producer

A pair of big, black, chunky plastic frames are for making a statement. They’re bold and say you’re someone who’s in charge and knows what he wants. Not an everyday pair for me, but perfect for darker evening outfits or whenever I’m feeling a little audacious.
3. The Professional

Similar to the first pair, but a square frame projects a little more seriousness and professionalism. This is the business pair. Sleek, modern, and also very versatile.
For the longest time, I was a one pair of glasses kind of guy. I talked a bit about this in the second Ask HSS episode. It used to take me forever to find a pair of glasses because I knew I’d be wearing them for years, and by default, they’d define my look. There’s definitely something to be said for having your eyeglasses be one of your style’s defining features. I think about Iris Apfel, Martin Scorcese, and my friend Matthew Miller (a.k.a. Sunflowerman).
These days, however, I like to use different eyewear as a reflection of my mood and attitude on any given day. How about you? Are you a one pair of glasses kind of guy or do you like to change it up from time to time?
Strongly encouraged in the comments: uploading a photo of yourself in your favorite pair (or pairs) of glasses.
