What do you wear to an early-summer after work happy hour?
It’s Friday night and you’re hitting up a favorite spot for an early summer happy hour. You left the office a little early, which means you had some time to go home and change. In other words, no office-to-bar outfit planning necessary.
What do you wear? Keep it simple, casual and cool.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a proper sharp casual outfit on the site. Now that it’s finally warm enough, I’ve been so focused on styling up my linen pants that I really haven’t been wearing jeans all that much. For a casual evening out, however, it’s a win-win proposition.
Dressing up denim is all about the blazer. I picked up this wool and cotton blazer at Neiman Marcus when I was down in DC earlier this week. (This plaid version would be a slightly more rakish choice.)
While I was in the store, I have to admit that I spent a good amount of time in the Brunello Cucinelli section. I’ve always kind of wished I could live in a Cucinelli editorial, but don’t quite have the disposable income to make that my reality.
However, on this occasion, I did splurge on this beautiful cotton button-down. You can’t see them here, but the pleats on the shoulders really make this shirt special.
With an outfit like this, footwear makes a huge difference to its overall appearance and feel. With white sneakers, it’d be sportier. With a pair of leather double monks, dressier. For me, a pair of brown suede penny loafers hits it just right.
Thanks for reading.
