If white denim isn’t part of your summer style game yet, make it a priority. Not only does it work extremely well dressed up (see here and here), but it is also very easy to wear in more casual and relaxed situations. Here’s a look that takes a casual approach to white denim with a little bit of a nautical twist.
One of the reasons white denim is so versatile is its neutrality. It looks good with any color or pattern, and in any situation, especially in the summertime.
As a guy who generally gravitates toward a more formal style, summer can sometimes be challenging. It’s easy to be creative when you have more to work with—think jackets, sweaters, scarfs, layering, and so on—so when the weather dictates that less is going to have to be more, making smart choices in terms of patterns and accessories is key.
If I plan on cuffing my pants, I might purchase them a little longer and not get them hemmed. However, the jeans I’m wearing are hemmed to where I like them so they are a little higher when cuffed. If you go that route, make sure your pants are slim and tapered—a higher cuff won’t look as flattering with a wide opening at the ankle.
In the fall and winter months, as far as hats go, I’m a huge fan of my black and grey herringbone ivy cap, but in the summer a straw hat is my go-to.
