Suede shoes are always a stylish choice. However, they do require a little more maintenance than you average leather shoe to look good on a daily basis. The good news is that the maintenance is relatively simple and only requires a few key items. Here’s what you need to take care of and clean suede shoes.
Suede Brush
A suede brush is the one must-have tool for keeping your suede shoes clean. You can use it after every wear or just when your shoes need a little touch up. Either way, when used properly, a suede brush keeps your shoes looking good as new.
A couple quick tips. Be sure to always brush the nap in the same direction without using too much pressure. And if you get mud on your suede shoes, allow it to dry first before trying to brush it off. When it’s dry, it will come off easier and will prevent you from creating a deeper stain.
Suede Eraser
A suede eraser is for stain removal. Rub the eraser over the stain and let it crumble. Then take your suede brush and brush the nap, getting rid of all the crumbles. If all goes well, the stain will be gone. One word of advice: if you’ve got a serious stain, don’t try to remove it yourself. Instead, take your shoes to a reputable shoe repair shop for the best results.
Suede Protector
Like caring for your leather shoes or bags, the best way to care for suede shoes is prevention. A good suede protector helps keep marks, stains, and even water damage to a minimum. If you do happen to get your suede shoes wet – it’s inevitable that they’ll get rained on one day – try to get as much moisture off of them before you leave them to dry.
