We have all likely been either overdressed or underdressed for an occasion at some point in our lives. And there’s probably been a time when you simply weren’t sure how to dress at all. It happens to the best of us. The in-between scenarios are often the hardest to gauge. I’d put dressing for a first date or going out to a nice (but not fancy) dinner and/or drinks on a Friday or Saturday night among them. Here’s a look for a night out that’s sharp but not overdressed.
Slim dark denim and a navy blazer are two great and extremely versatile menswear basics. A blazer can dress up denim and denim can dress down a blazer. For a night out on the town, it’s an easy way to look sharp without going overboard if the dress code is at all unclear.
Selvedge denim is definitely an investment but it’s an investment worth making. Though a good pair will run between $150-175, it’s a classic case of you-get-what-you-pay-for. Not only can you feel the quality of a pair selvedge denim jeans, but they will last a very long time. And like good leather, their appearance improves the older they get. My A.P.C. New Standards are just over two years old and are only getting better with age. They’re not my only pair of jeans, but they’re definitely my favorite and have the most character, by far.
