It was a dark and stormy night… Actually, if you’re making this cocktail, it’s probably a hot and sunny day. I’ve been on a classic island cocktail kick recently and the Dark and Stormy is another one of my favorites. Like a daiquiri, it’s cool and refreshing. Unlike the daiquiri, it’s got a little bit of a bite and is a product of Bermuda, not Cuba. Here’s how to make a Dark and Stormy.
Dark and Stormy
2 oz. dark rum
3 oz. ginger beer
.5 oz. lime juice
Fill a collins glass with ice cubes. Add the rum, ginger beer, and lime juice. Stir with a cocktail spoon and garnish with a lime wedge.
As far as ingredients go, if you want authenticity, you’re making this with Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda rum and Barritt’s ginger beer. Lime juice is optional, though I like a touch of added tartness. If you like some bite, you might consider using something like Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew. Recipes are just guidelines to a certain extent.
