The Cricket Sweater

With origins as sportswear, the cricket sweater has since become an iconic staple of classic preppy style. Though it is generally associated with society’s elite, thankfully you don’t need to be a member of an exclusive country club to pull one off. It’s cable knit and colorful trim make it a stylish fall layering piece. And now that sweater weather is officially upon us, here’s one way to wear a cricket sweater this fall.

A cricket sweater pairs incredibly naturally with a pair of chinos. A classic khaki is a simple and no-nonsense choice and provides a blank canvas to showcase the sweater’s bold colors. If you want to tone down the prep a bit, throw in an edgier element, such as a denim jacket in place of a traditional blazer. It’s one of my favorite ways to add a bit of a different flavor to an otherwise traditional look.

Wear a cricket sweater with any collared shirt. A polo can work though it’s definitely easiest to pull off with a button up. Leave your collar unbuttoned to style it a little more casually or do it up with a tie for a more dressed up look.
