I get lots of questions from readers via email and I always do my best to respond to every single one. Sometimes the questions are fairly specific and sometimes they’re more general. Here’s one I received recently from a young gentleman in Italy asking about recommendations for books on men’s style.
I’m an 18 year old guy who just recently became aware of the importance of being well dressed. I’m desperately trying to learn a bit about the basics of dressing well and I’m looking for a neutral “source” from which to acquire some basic knowledge about types of clothes, color patterns to use, and so on. Basically, what I was curious to ask you was if you know of any manuals or books on men’s style that might help me out.
– Riccardo D. from Italy
Sure thing, Riccardo. And thanks so much for the email. There are definitely lots of great books out there for style rules as well as style inspiration. I’ve listed five of my favorites below and widget underneath has nine additional titles that you also might find useful and/or inspiring.
1. Dressing the Man by Alan Flusser
2. A Gentleman Gets Dressed Up by John Bridges and Bryan Curtis
3. The Sartorialist: Closer by Scott Schuman
4. Icons of Men’s Style by Josh Sims
5. The Mr. Porter Paperback: The Manual for a Stylish Life edited by Jeremy Langmead
What are some books that have inspired your personal style? Let me know in the comments. And always feel free to email me with any questions. I love hearing from my readers.
Thanks for reading.
