Night & Day

November 1st, 2013

Night and day, you are the one / Only you beneath the moon or under the sun / Whether near to me or far / It’s no matter, darling, where you are / I think of you, day and night. What can I say? I’m a sucker for the classics. More than anything, I find comfort in something that has stood the test of time and remains just as perfect today as when it was created. It is one of the reasons I am drawn to classic style and also why I am so excited to have partnered with Banana Republic as the brand ambassador for the Black & White Shop as part of their new Open For Joy campaign.

I am the type of person who constantly needs to be busy. Part of that may be a symptom of the fast paced times in which we live, but it’s mostly something within me. I have a compulsion to create things, to share them with people, and to do all of that to the absolute best of my ability. And, with me, it’s always all or nothing. That mindset and discipline has helped me to achieve many of my dreams and has certainly led to my appreciation of the timeless and transcendent.

So when I speak about comfort in this context, it’s hinting towards a feeling of being grounded in the midst of the usual whirlwind I happily find myself. That same favorite recording I’ve been listening to for two decades, a perfect espresso, a quiet moment alone—these are the seemingly small but beautiful things that, however brief and fleeting, help me to recharge and continue doing what I love to do.

Keeping the busy schedule that I do, some days I’m left without much time to think about what I’m going to wear. In these instances, I inevitably gravitate towards the basics and a classic color palate. It’s a simple and sharp solution that I know will have me covered even on those jammed packed days that keep me busy from morning to night with business and social commitments.

Night and day, why is it so? / That this longing for you follows wherever I go / In the roaring traffic’s boom / In the silence of my lonely room / How I think of you, day and night.
