Early fall is the perfect time for a lightweight suede jacket. That is, when it’s not raining cats and dogs like it has been on the East Coast recently.
There is nothing quite like the look and feel of a quality suede. The soft napped texture lends any outfit a great deal of depth, warmth and richness.
Just like a leather jacket, the best suede jackets have simple designs. Avoid excess pockets, zippers, or fringe. Simple is always in style, ensures maximum versatility and helps keep you from becoming a fashion victim.
The best pieces in my wardrobe often have a good story attached to them. I first saw this jacket at Billy Reid in the West Village. It was at the tail end of summer, and believe it or not, this was in the summer collection. It was on sale and there were only two left in my size anywhere. I let it go, as it was a little out of my price range.
A couple weeks later, I stopped back in expecting it to be long gone. But, there it was. I still balked a bit but left my number with the shopkeeper in case it dropped in price any more. The very next day, she called and let me know that it had been reduced significantly. Done. It was meant to be.
A suede jacket is also a great way to dress up denim and elevate a casual look. Same goes for a waistcoat and a proper pair of chelsea boots.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
