While a leather portfolio or document holder isn’t an essential, it can be a nice item to have if you’re looking for a stylish supplement to your collection of bags. Think of it as a bit of a dressed down and more sartorial alternative to a briefcase and a bit more dressed up than a messenger. Here are a few reasons to consider one.
A leather portfolio is the perfect option when you’ve only got a few papers to carry and keep safe. I often find myself in this situation and while I could easily grab my briefcase or messenger bag, if I know I’m not going to need anything else, like my laptop, chargers, and so on, I always feel like it’s overkill for such a small haul. And though its utility may seem rather limited, don’t overlook ways to get the most out of it—mine fits my 13″ Macbook Air like a glove.
A leather portfolio is also versatile and adaptable to a range of different styles. It will always look great for business when carried with a suit, but really shines as an accessory to kick casual dress up a notch or two. See it paired with a couple of different casual looks here and here.
