If You’ve Got a Black Watch Plaid Blazer…

After publishing our What to Wear on New Year’s Eve post on Monday, I can’t tell you how many comments we got asking to flip-flop the black watch plaid from pants and solid blazer to plaid blazer and solid pants. So, for those of you who asked for that, here you go. And for those who didn’t, well, here’s some last-minute New Year’s Eve style inspiration.

If you’re not quite ready for black watch plaid pants, but love the pattern, a blazer is definitely a more “conservative,” easier to style choice.

The great thing about black watch tartan is that navy is one of its primary colors, which means it will pair with just about any pants in the classic menswear palate. Dark navy pants are safe, as are dark grey. Make sure your trouser fabric matches the season – wool is a staple of my winter wardrobe.

With most every winter outfit, I’m looking for ways to incorporate some sort of texture along with a pattern. A solid color knit tie in navy or brown is one of the first I reach for and should be one of your 10 essential ties.
