Made in Italy: Canali Tailoring

November 5th, 2014

Two of the things I’ve come to love most since starting HSS is the sense of community in the menswear world as well as the opportunities I’ve had to be introduced to and work with many amazing brands. So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled when the Details Network approached me with a project for the renowned Italian outfitter, Canali and its AW14 collection. Here’s the first of two looks I styled.

The timing of this collaboration couldn’t be more appropriate, as I’m counting down the days until my trip to Milan at the end of the month. Canali was actually established in 1934 in Triuggio, just north of Milan. The current collection pays homage to the brand’s rich history – clean lines, sharp aesthetic – though now also includes a range of contemporary fit options.

Nobody does suited up style like Italian gentlemen, and it’s hard not to channel those influences when you’re wearing a genuine made in Italy garment. A wide (but not too wide peak lapel), double four-in-hand, an unnamed pocket square fold. These are the things that seem completely unaffected and tossed off when done properly, but are actually studied carelessness and imperfection that require the right eye, the right touch, and the right attitude to pull off convincingly.
