Made in Italy: Canali Tailoring

Two of the things I’ve come to love most since starting HSS is the sense of community in the menswear world as well as the opportunities I’ve had to be introduced to and work with many amazing brands. So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled when the Details Network approached me with a project for the renowned Italian outfitter, Canali and its AW14 collection. Here’s the first of two looks I styled.

The timing of this collaboration couldn’t be more appropriate, as I’m counting down the days until my trip to Milan at the end of the month. Canali was actually established in 1934 in Triuggio, just north of Milan. The current collection pays homage to the brand’s rich history – clean lines, sharp aesthetic – though now also includes a range of contemporary fit options.

Nobody does suited up style like Italian gentlemen, and it’s hard not to channel those influences when you’re wearing a genuine made in Italy garment. A wide (but not too wide peak lapel), double four-in-hand, an unnamed pocket square fold. These are the things that seem completely unaffected and tossed off when done properly, but are actually studied carelessness and imperfection that require the right eye, the right touch, and the right attitude to pull off convincingly.

Hi !! … Reminder: You need to do a video on Tie knots, specially this one. Thanks :)

    • Brian Sacawa

Indeed! Thanks for the reminder, Umer! It’s definitely top on my list. We’ll be adding a couple new sections/series to the YouTube channel in the coming months, including a “How To” series as well as a cocktail section. Subscribe and stay tuned!

  • Wayne

Looking sharp as ever. Tailoring on that suit is perfection!

    • Brian Sacawa

Cheers, Wayne! And I definitely agree. I always love when something OTR fits as well as this.

  • Colin Smith

Very nice. I’m a fan of Canali as well. What is the style or cut of the suit? I mean, the name Canali gives it. And what color blue do they call that? Thanks.

    • Brian Sacawa

I believe it’s the Milano. (Sorry, I’m traveling and can’t look at the label just now!) Not sure what they call that blue either. I will check and get back with you!

  • Robert

Looking great Brian! Can I know what envelope bag that is? Cheers!

    • Brian Sacawa

Thanks, Robert. The leather folio is from Reiss. It’s from last season and is currently not available on their site. There’s this one, however, which is black and zips. I did a little digging and the closest I can find is this one from Coach. Same style with the clasp, but also black.

  • Chris Jones

“An unnamed pocket square fold” are usually the best, as showcased here. Well done Brian

    • Brian Sacawa

Cheers, Chris. Once we get the “How To” section of the YouTube channel up and running, I’ll definitely be doing a couple tutorials on my favorite “unnamed” ways to fold a pocket square.

  • Stephen

  • Sourav Tantubay

That’s a sharp look!! The I think the same tie in red would also look good. What do you say?

    • Brian Sacawa

It would definitely be a lot bolder and make a different kind of statement. I did something similar in a post about the power suit.

  • Lavi Mathru

    • Brian Sacawa

      Cheers, Lavi!

  • Brian Olaca
