The Statement Blazer, Part 2

A blazer like this one is designed to make a statement. And the statement you choose it to make with it depends largely on what you pair it with. It can definitely serve to push the boundaries in a more classic look, but it can also add a huge amount of flair and fun to a more casual look. And with a piece like this, fun is what it’s all about.

I’m just going to come straight out and say it—you are either going to love or hate this look. I can think of at least three things here that can really split opinions. First, the statement blazer itself. Second, a blazer with shorts. And third, flip flops.

As I said in the first look that featured it, I really believe that at least one statement piece belongs in every guy’s wardrobe, no matter how conservative you consider your personal style to be. However, I understand that something this bold is definitely outside of some of my readers’ comfort zones. That’s completely acceptable—everyone has different thresholds when it comes to personal style.

The short suit has been showing up more and more this summer and it is a style the definitely seems to create strong feelings one way or the other. My advice, as always, is that if it works for you and you are comfortable in a particular style, then go for it. And if you’re wearing a statement blazer, don’t be afraid to mix in other bold patterns as well. In this instance, go bold or go home!

To be honest, summer footwear is tough. Personally, I don’t have a problem with flip-flops so long as they compliment a look and aren’t just a default choice because they’re easy to slip on before heading out the door. If you are focusing on bold patterns, a simple footwear solution will always be a good pick.
