In Heavy Rotation: The Plaid Workshirt

Long Sleeves + Plaid = Perfect for Fall

Like a lot of menswear guys, I consider fall to be one of the absolute best seasons for men’s style. You’ve got your flannels, you’ve got your tweeds, you’ve got your outerwear, you’ve got your boots, and, of course, you’ve got your layering.

But that’s not what I want to talk about today because there’s a specific piece of fall menswear that I consider to be essential for a well-rounded wardrobe: the plaid workshirt.

A plaid workshirt is an absolute must for casual fall weekend style. Since Robin and I moved out to the country and into our new home in the woods, this particular workshirt has been my go-to for yardwork and lounging in front of the firepit in our Adirondack chairs.

(If you don’t happen to be into plaid, check out a few simpler and more subtle options below. Though we call them safari shirt jackets, they’re from the same family as the workshirt and can be styled in pretty much the same exact way.)

There are a few things in particular that I like about this workshirt. It’s made in a cotton/flannel fabric, which means it’s quite soft. It’s quilted on the inside, which is great for chilly early mornings playing with Coco. And the use of snaps instead of buttons makes it easy to shed if I get a little too hot raking up the leaves later in the day.

From a style perspective, it’s rustic and rugged, pairing perfectly with my favorite light wash denim jeans and easy-going camp mocs.

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Stylishly Yours,
