Mustang Unleashed

My very first car was a Ford Mustang. A 1989 two-door hatchback. It was red and pretty much the coolest car a 16-year-old kid in a high school rock band could have. Plenty of room for carting all my gear around, and plenty of style, which was helpful when chasing cute girls. I still remember going to the used car lot with my father to pick it up and drive it home. My father has always been a big fan of tradition, and what I found out on that trip was that his first car was a Mustang as well.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

I get emails all the time from readers looking for suggestions on how to look sharp without going overboard. We've talked before about whether it's better (or worse) to be overdressed or underdressed for something, and though opinions skewed towards erring on being overdressed, let's face it, there are definitely situations where you do not want to bring it too much. A casual dinner or drink and first (or second or third) date come to mind. Here's one idea for keeping it sharp, but casual.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Leather Portfolio

While a leather portfolio or document holder isn't an essential, it can be a nice item to have if you're looking for a stylish supplement to your collection of bags. Think of it as a bit of a dressed down and more sartorial alternative to a briefcase and a bit more dressed up than a messenger. Here are a few reasons to consider one.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Black Leather Bomber

As I've said many times before, once you've made the choice to get into menswear, it can be very easy to get lost down a rabbit hole of details and affectations. And while there's always a time and place for a well-appointed detail or accessory, it's important to remember that the simplest looks can often be the most stylish. The key to simple style is to have great-fitting, classic, and timeless pieces. Case in point: a black leather bomber jacket.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Coach + Philip Crangi

How you accessorize—and style, in general, for that matter—is as much about personal taste as it is about personal comfort. What works for one, or some, might not be the right fit for you. However, I also think it's important to be open and to have a willingness to try things out, even if you're initial reaction is to shy away from something. Ask yourself: are you not open to something because you think it doesn't work for your personal style or because you know it doesn't?  VIEW MORE ▶︎

OluKai

Over the years, my approach to vacations has changed drastically. I used to be someone who would plan out each day, drawing up an exhaustive agenda of activities so I'd be sure to experience everything the destination had to offer. These days, however, vacation is all about comfort, relaxation, and doing absolutely nothing. I need time to recharge and I've found that sitting by the pool all day at a resort on Poipu Beach looking at the palm trees, listening to the ocean, and sipping cocktails is the way to go. It may only be April, which means vacation is a few months away, but teaming up with OluKai has got me dreaming of Hawaii.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Wintry Mix

I'm not exactly sure what it is about the cold and snowy weather that makes a darker color palate something of a winter uniform. It could be an expression of the depression people are starting to feel as this extremely cold winter continues to drag on—I may honestly be the only one enjoying it—or it could be a way of creating a simple, but stark, contrast with the grey skies or snow blanketing the ground. Here's one way to mix some subtle patterns into a wintry monochromatic look.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

7FAM x Movember

A couple of outside forces conspired to prevent me from growing out a mustache this month, but thankfully that doesn't stop me from doing my part to bring awareness to the Movember cause. I've teamed up with 7 For All Mankind to style their limited edition Movember jean—$20 from every pair sold is donated to the charity—and get the word out about some very important men's health issues. And in the absence of a Mo, I thought I'd feature something just as badass: my motorcycle.  VIEW MORE ▶︎
