Lake Monticello

A couple weeks ago, Rob invited me to spend the weekend at his wife's parents' house on Lake Monticello in Virginia. To be honest, my first thought was, "Oh, man, all the way down there?" If you know D.C. beltway traffic—or, more specifically, D.C. beltway traffic during Friday evening rush hour—you can understand my concern. A three-hour drive can easily become a five-hour odyssey. Nevertheless, I'd been in need of a getaway and decided to make the trip (and battle the traffic) for what turned out to be an absolutely perfect weekend.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Leather Portfolio

While a leather portfolio or document holder isn't an essential, it can be a nice item to have if you're looking for a stylish supplement to your collection of bags. Think of it as a bit of a dressed down and more sartorial alternative to a briefcase and a bit more dressed up than a messenger. Here are a few reasons to consider one.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Messenger Bag

A messenger bag is a great entrée into the world of men's bags. As a daily option for carrying around documents, magazines, books, a laptop, your assortment of chargers, office supplies, and so on, it hits all the right notes. Less formal than a briefcase and—if you choose the right material—more grown up than a backpack, a messenger bag is perfect for the man about town and the guy on the go.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Coach + Philip Crangi

How you accessorize—and style, in general, for that matter—is as much about personal taste as it is about personal comfort. What works for one, or some, might not be the right fit for you. However, I also think it's important to be open and to have a willingness to try things out, even if you're initial reaction is to shy away from something. Ask yourself: are you not open to something because you think it doesn't work for your personal style or because you know it doesn't?  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Over the years, my approach to vacations has changed drastically. I used to be someone who would plan out each day, drawing up an exhaustive agenda of activities so I'd be sure to experience everything the destination had to offer. These days, however, vacation is all about comfort, relaxation, and doing absolutely nothing. I need time to recharge and I've found that sitting by the pool all day at a resort on Poipu Beach looking at the palm trees, listening to the ocean, and sipping cocktails is the way to go. It may only be April, which means vacation is a few months away, but teaming up with OluKai has got me dreaming of Hawaii.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Winter Layers

If you subscribe to the newsletter, you've already heard me say that I am possibly one of the only people who actually enjoys the cold and snow. Though lots of folks are sick of the cold and dreaming of spring and summer, I have to say that I was pretty excited to see snow again. The only thing that gets a little stale to me, is falling into the routine of wearing the same coat every day. Here's one way I changed it up a bit and stayed warm with a few of my favorite winter layers.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

Casual Cardigan

A cardigan may not be the first sweater you think to buy, but it is definitely one that you should have in your closet. It's an extremely versatile piece that can be styled a variety of ways for a variety of situations and occasions. Here's one way to wear a cardigan casually.  VIEW MORE ▶︎

The Velvet Blazer: Around Town

A velvet blazer is a staple of evening attire, especially during the winter festive season. And while it may conjure images of a black tie event or sipping a fine scotch in a comfortable leather chair next to a warm fireplace, don't discount it as a piece that can also be worn casually during the day. A few weeks ago I posted a video preview featuring a black velvet blazer three ways. As promised, here's the first in a series of posts on how to wear a velvet blazer.  VIEW MORE ▶︎
