Ask HSS, Ep. 6: Sneakers with a Suit

Can you wear sneakers with a suit? A very hot topic that can really divide opinions in the world of menswear. In this week’s episode of Ask He Spoke Style, I give my opinion on the matter. What about you? How do you feel about wearing sneakers with a suit? Is it acceptable? Do you do it? Who can pull it off? And what’s the best way to do it?

I’ve been getting tons of great questions and let’s keep them coming! Leave them in the comments (along with your opinions on wearing sneakers with a suit), email me, or send them along via Twitter of Instagram with the hashtag #AskHSS. I can’t wait to hear from you. And don’t forget to subscribe to the YouTube channel!

Thanks for watching.

I’m unable to watch your vid from where I’m at so this is my opinion without hearing yours. I don’t think it’s a good look at all. Sneakers were originally meant as children’s shoes for one thing. To play in. Other than that, why miss the opportunity to wear nice leather oxfords or monk straps? Putting on sneakers is like missing a day to wear something satisfying and meaningful. I no longer find spongy, springy shoes comfortable at all either, ironically. Once your muscle, tendons etc get used to spongeless dress shoes then the ‘air’ or whatever sponge material is just annoying.

A nice flatter and complimentary sneaker with a great fitting suit is the best fashion trend to come along in ages. Especially today with everyone being more busy and on the go than every. I can be fashionable and comfortable at the same time.

    Great post!

My feeling on this topic is if you’re not Ellen DeGeneres than you shouldn’t wear sneakers with a suit. It’s a sloppy look and the two items just weren’t made to go together. If you want to wear something casual on your feet try a pair of dress boots.

Robert Downey Jr. pulls it off. My advice is, if you want to, be a rockstar about it and own it.
