The Double-Breasted Blazer

July 19th, 2013

The double-breasted blazer has always been around but it has definitely made a comeback in a big way recently. If you happened to have glimpsed any photos of the guys peacocking at Pitti Uomo last month, you no doubt saw countless stylish gentleman sporting one. Though I’ve seen flashes of it here in the States, it would be great to see more American men adopting the style. Here’s my contribution to get the ball rolling.

I think a lot of men may shy away from a double-breasted blazer because they think it might make them look too big and boxy. I have to say that that was definitely a concern of mine at first since I favor more slim-fitting garments. However, with the right cut or tailoring, a double-breasted blazer can look just as slim as a regular blazer or sport coat despite the extra fabric.

I’ve mentioned before that finding clothes that fit you really well right off the rack can be nearly impossible, but I have been extremely impressed with the fit of REISS blazers straight off the hanger.

Patch pockets are a great marriage of form and function. They are definitely a more casual pocket option for blazers or sport coats, but they will always make you look sharp but not overdressed. And the extra stitching adds a really nice touch. They’re also great for traveling since your phone, wallet, or train tickets are always easily accessible.

If a double-breasted blazer seems like a lot of fabric to have around you in the summertime, choosing one in a lightweight fabric will definitely keep you cool and stylish. The blazer I’m wearing is also unconstructed, which helps as well.
