That’s It: Episode 6, Moderation

If you write about stuff on the Internet, you are bound to piss someone off.

If there has been one thing I’ve learned from my over 10 years of writing on the Internet, it’s that you can’t please everyone.

No matter what the subject is, there are always going to be people who disagree with you or who think you just plain wrong and get really pissed off about it.

Sometimes it’s simply because it’s the Internet and people like to to pick fights. And sometimes it’s because people feel extremely strongly about a certain topic or issue.

I’ve run into both kinds of people throughout my blogging career, though there hasn’t been much of it to speak of during my time publishing He Spoke Style.

However, there is one topic that I write about on the site from time to time that has been exceptionally contentious. Disgusted comments. Angry emails. Vicious “I’m unfollowing you!” proclamations. You name it. So, in this week’s episode of the podcast, I wanted to take the opportunity to address my critics.

Thoughts on the topic? Chime in below.

Thanks, as always, for listening.

    Brian,
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that there are folks out there who are so self righteous that they feel the need to take something as benign as cigar tips on a social blog and turn it into a personal offense and a full blown social issue. I think these folks responses to your blogs are an illustration of the state of our society in 2016. Simply put, we’re being overcome by overly sensitive, politically correct, wusses! A world where everything is a PROBLEM. Why can’t we simply read your material, digest it, take it for what it is without unnecessary commentary that doesn’t elevate anyone.

I enjoyed the cigar pieces. I too like to enjoy a nice cigar on certain occasions and the information you shared came in quite handy for the next time I decide to partake. This is coming from someone who DESPISES the habit of smoking. An occasional cigar is not the same as a 2 pack a day cigarette habit. It’s comparing APPLES to ORANGES!

    Keep up the great work!

    Cheers

I honestly believe that if someone hasn’t the courage to say something to one’s face it is not worth dignifying it with an answer. Knowing this, there are certain people writing bile behind the anonymity afforded by the internet who by their nature will always be annoying, so if you want my opinion you will just ignore them. Boring people soon become bored with their own company, after all.
